Alexandria shipyard was established in 1962 inside the free zone of Alexandria port . ASY is a pioneer company in shipbuilding , ship repair and heavy industries in Egypt and the Middle East. The total yard’s land area is about 400,000 m2 with total quays length of 1200 m. Currently, the company is affiliated to the Marine industries & Services organization owned by the Egyptian Ministry of Defense. The company enjoys a unique position in the Arab region where it has built most commercial ships belonging to the Egyptian fleet. It has achieved success in other areas as well, including the construction of the largest ship ever built in Egypt with a capacity of 38,500 tons, and the completion of the only oil rig built to date in Egypt.

Eng / Ahmed Mohamed Efat

Before he was promoted to the chairman he was in charge of the technical affair of the shipyard and it is well to point out that the first cargo ship named Alexandria was launched in his period as chairman of ASY. After that he was selected as the Minister of the Maritime Affairs of the government of Egypt

Rear Admiral / Ahmed Ihsan Madkour

Mr./Madkour was reassigned as chairman for ASY during which time many general cargo ships were built & contributed in the development of the Egyptian commercial fleet

From 20/6/1974 To 13/3/1977

Eng /Mohamed Abdelhamid hussien

He continued the production with the series of general cargo ships of 6000 TDW

From 31/3/1977 To 26/9/1981

Eng / Hassan Elsayed Ahmed

He continued the work of cargo ships under construction during his period

From 28/9/1981 To 1/4/1986

Eng /Ahmed Farouk Abdelmonem

During which time jack up drilling rig Helen Cecil was built for the first time in Egypt together with series of multi-purpose cargo ship with RoRo access to the tween deck named Hamlet type and started the negotiation of the 2 biggest bulk carries ever built in Egypt. He also sign the contract and delivered both carries to the Egyptian navigation Co.

From 31/3/1986 To 30/6/1988

Eng /Mahmoud Salah El-Din Ahmed Omar

Back once more to the very successful multi-purpose cargo ship with the RoRo access to the twin deck
And again Mr. Omar was promoted from the general manger of production to the chairman of the yard to continue in fact his effort in all activities with particular focus on the ship repair side hoping to wide spread the repair services all over the Mediterranean

Eng/ Tawakal Ahmed Elmagrabi

In the core of his achievement of the construction of many RoRo cargo ships &for the first time built under the supervision of German Co. & owned by German owners. Due to the excellent particulars of the subject ships Egyptian navigation Co. ordered some sister of those ships (Quseir / Nuweiba)

Eng / Adel Abdelgawad

He went the same way during his time ,the orders of the RoRo cargo ships for the foreign owners had been continued (sawidi Ship)

Eng / Ahmed Mohamed Elarag

Technical resume

  • BSc in mechanical engineering year 1964
  • Joined the ASY as basic engineer 1964
  • He was promoted to production manger 1980
  • In 1996 he was promoted to chairman of the board of the shipyard until year 2000

Achievements during his period

  • Many various types of ships :general cargo, RoRo ships, multi-purpose ships were built during his time
Projects that have been working during the presence period His attention was directed to the engineering products such as:
  • Manufacturing all Alexandria pedestrian bridges
  • Manufacturing all Sewage requirements of Alexandria Governorate in the field of plumbing
  • Manufacturing Components of sugar factories
  • Manufacturing Distillery Tower of Nasr Petroleum Company
  • Manufacturing gantry crane of 365 tons for the electrical power station west of west Cairo

Rear Admiral/Hussin Mohamed Sennara

Technical resume

  • Chief engineer in Egypt navy
  • Commander of the navy main workshop
  • Chief engineer of the Egyptian navy
  • Commander in chief technical assistant

Achievements

  • 2 RoRo cargo ships of 6000 TDW Al-Hurreya 1&2 were built & delivered during his time to MIASO shipping Co.
  • He contributed in the transfer of ownership of the shipyard to the military forces
  • Many other engineering activities were undertaken , fabrication of spare parts for cement Co., Oil Co., tobacco eastern Co. & sugar producer Co.
  • Ship repair activity had been supported, developed& upgraded so that majority of local commercial fleet ships & various navy vessels were carried out their routine maintenance work together with all machinery& hull different repairs due to the vertue of his good management

From 1/8/2007 To 31/8/2012

Rear Admiral/ Ibrahim Gaber Eldosoky

  • During his time full transfer of the ownership of shipyard to the military forces was completed
  • He made great effort to realize the upgrade of the shipyard which could be considered the resurrection of the shipyard which could be summerized as follows :
    • Establishing a new huge workshop of the block assembly &welding
    • Establishing a new huge piping shop fully newly equipped accompanying great area supplement by chemical cleaning & passivation workshops
    • Also a new blasting &painting modern environment friendly workshop was established
    • Flat area next to southern berth had been prepared supported by huge lifting capacity overhead rail mounted crane of 300 ton carrying capacity
 

From 1/9/2012 To 30/6/2014

Rear Admiral/Soliman Ibrahim Elshahat

Technical resume

  • BSc in power mechanics & master degree in shipping & logistics
  • Head of Maintenance and Ship Repair Division in Naval Forces
  • Occupied technical leading posts in ASY and promoted to chairman of the shipyard

Achievements

  • During his time numerous achievement were taken place such as:
  • Reactivation of glad fiber workshop
  • Repair of the Iraqi floating dock name sea of Arabia
  • Shared the supervision during the development of ASY utilized by Chinese contractor
  • Many other ship types & projects were being carried out during his time

From 1/7/2014 To 10/8/2015

Rear Admiral/ Magdy Amin Abuklila

  • His main achievement in fact is the completion, finishing & celebrating the major development project of the shipyard in order for the output of the steel production to be escalated from 4000 tons to 40000 tons

  • He also contributed in the construction of various tug boats and during his time the ship construction activity resumed after the completion of the development project

 

From 11/8/2015 To 23/12/2016

Rear Admiral/AbdElhamid Hussien Esmat

  • His main achievement was the preparation & taking the major role in having the engineer & technicians acquainted of the new & up-to-date technology in connection with the construction of the corvette type Gowind by the appropriate training courses locally & abroad
  • Kickoff event of the new corvette had been performed by steel cutting of the 1st bottom sections of the corvette
  • Berth trials & short experimental sea trial of AL Hurreya-3 has been carried out during his time

Rear Admiral/ Osama Fathy Hassan

Dawn of achievements

AS the year 2017 commenced to show up, the 1st two bottom blocks where the machinery space of the 1st corvette to be built in the whole history of the shipbuilding, ever, in Egypt, started to emerge from long hibernation to move forward from the flat area to building berth marking the keel laying event of the corvette named after the heroic city “port said” .
Many of the blocks and activity came to light in the various workshops of ASY and by the time the shape of the 1st corvette gradually grown up on the building berth until that date of 6th September 2018 when the vessel nicely &smoothly slid down from the berth to touch the sea water for the 1st time marking the great occasion :launching of the unique navy vessel type, “corvette port said”. On the same date “keel laying” event of sister corvette was celebrated , building of which progressed steadily until that date on May 11, 2019 when the 2nd corvette was successfully launched to touch the water for the 1st time bearing the name “Almoaz” to join the prototype one, berthing alongside undergoing fitting out, machinery installation, quay trails & preparation for sea trial & delivery.
Many other activities & important milestones & events have taken place such as:
  • Keel laying of 3rd corvette
  • Delivery of tug boats for Alexandria port Authority
  • Sea trails &delivery of River container, cargo barges
  • Construction, commissioning& installation in place of dry docks caissons(gate) for both the east &the west dry docks, replacing the very old gates of the docks
Many other numerous projects are currently, steadily progressing by the virtue of his excellent command, enthusiasm, courage & high spirit

Rear Admiral/ Ahmed Ahmed Morsi

Achievements

Contributed to many company achievements including the training center upgrade albeit he recently took charge of the company CEO.
  • Launching E.N.S Luxor (986), the 3rd Gowind corvette ship to be launched by A.S.Y facilities.
  • Beginning of the Gowind corvette “port said” sea trials.
  • Signing a contract with Cooperation Petroleum Company “CPC” for building one oil tanker and deliver one from china.
  • Delivery of 2-tug boat for Alexandria Port Authority.
  • Finalize the dispute held against the delivery of Ranfic boats and starting the delivery of the first batch of 10 out of 100 boats.
