Delivery of the tugboat « Mokhtar»
In the framework of Alexandria Shipyard’s national role in supporting the national economy and the shipbuilding and repair industry in Egypt, and within the fruitful cooperation between Alexandria Shipyard and Alexandria Port Authority, Admiral Ashraf Ibrahim Atwa, Cheif of the Egyptian Navy and Chairman of the Board of the Marine Industries and Services Organization (MIASO), has approved the delivery of the tugboat “Mokhtar” with a 70-ton bollard pull capacity to Alexandria Port Authority today, , October 15, 2024.
The ceremony was attended by:
– Rear Admiral. Ahmed Abdel-Moati Hawash, President of Alexandria Port Authority
– Rear Admiral. Hossam El-Din Ezzat Ahmed Kotb, Chairman of Alexandria Shipyard
– Rear Admiral. Ayman Raafat Tarabis, Deputy Chairman of Alexandria Shipyard
– Captain. Mohamed Safwat, Head of the Central Logistics Administration
– Rear Admiral. Emad Al-Najjar, Head of the Central Administration for Technical and Marine Services
– Rear Admiral. Amr Abdel-Razek, Director General of Public Relations
Also, with the presence of the French Classification Society “BV” that supervised the whole project, represented by Eng. Nasser Ragab, CEO of the Marine Operations in Egypt.
In addition to a high-level delegation from Alexandria Port Authority, along with the managers, engineers, technicians, and workers of Alexandria Shipyard, also attended the ceremony.
It is also noteworthy that the tugboat “Mokhtar” is the third of a total of four tugboats being built at Alexandria Shipyard, with the remaining tugboats planned for delivery by the end of this year, 2024, to the Alexandria Port Authority.
Additionally, Alexandria Shipyard is preparing to deliver its first Azimuth stern drive (ASD) tugboat with an 85-ton bollard pull capacity, which was built at the shipyard’s construction facilities for the first time in Egyptian shipyards, in collaboration with Robert Allan Design Office from Canada. Alexandria Shipyard aims to standardize this tugboat model across Egyptian ports due to its strong performance, ease of maneuverability and control, and its equipment from leading global manufacturers, including German MTU engines and Norwegian Kongsberg propellers and deck machinery.
Alexandria Shipyard also aims to market this tugboat in international markets outside Egypt in order to enhance the country’s export power and increase sources of income in foreign currency as a primary goal in the upcoming phase.
