The Royal Yacht El-Mahrousa
- Mahroussa was a Royal Yacht built for Isma’il Pasha, the Khedive of Egypt in 1865.
- In the first year of the reign of khedive Ismail the Sultan Abdel Aziz khan of Turkey came to Egypt to pay his protégé a visit. The khedive presented the Sultan with his yacht “Fied Gihad”, a present which was readily accepted. The Khedive than ordered the construction of another yacht for his own use, which he named Mahroussa.
- It was built by the Samuda Brothers on the River Thames and designed along the same lines as HMY Victoria and Albert II, and remained in service with the Egyptian royal family until 1951. Originally designed and constructed in London 1865 as coal burning paddle wheel steamer, equipped with auxiliary sails for the his majesty use. In April 1865 the crew was sent to man the yacht. Her maiden voyage was in August 1865. The yacht was completed in 1865 and was named “H.M.Y MAHROOSA meaning “Protected” in Arabic
