Alexandria Shipyard participating in the the 3rd LIFE4MEDECA International Conference, titled "Greening the MED".

Rear Admiral / Hossam Kotb (Chairman) represented Alexandria Shipyard Company at the conference, in addition to the presence of Rear Admiral / Reda Ismail, Head of the Maritime Transport Sector, and Mr. Dr. Abdel Aziz Qunsowa, President of Alexandria University, in addition to a number of United Nations leaders and Dr. Suzan Kholif, Director SDG4MED Africa Office. The Chairman gave a speech at the beginning of the conference about the importance of preserving the environment and the importance of this conference in the wake of the COP27 climate conference organized by Egypt under the sponsorship of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi. He also touched on the role played by Alexandria Shipyard in the green and blue transformation of the Mediterranean. The company’s contributions to protect the environment and reducing greenhouse gas emissions are represented in implementing the latest regulations of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) by modifying ships and installing Ballast Water Treatment Systems (BTWS) to ensure that these ships adhere to the highest environmental standards applied internationally, in addition to the company’s commitment to the requirements of hazardous material disposal according to IHM convention. Rear Admiral also stated that the company is in the process of cooperating with a German company to begin converting the first marine engine that operates with duel fuel (a mixture of fuel and hydrogen). He also highlighted the company’s efforts to establish the first national Egyptian design office to adopt the latest innovative ship designs that exploit the power of hydrogen and other green energies, as these advanced ships represent a paradigm shift in the field of maritime transport, and offer a glimpse into a more sustainable future.
