Alexandria Shipyard Launches 4th and Final MEKO A200 Frigate “ENS Al-Jabbar”

 

On December 4, 2023, Alexandria shipyard marked another historic moment with the launch of the 4th and final MEKO A200 frigate named “ENS Al-Jabbar (910)” for the Egyptian Navy.”Al-Jabbar” is the first frigate built in Egypt under the Thyssenkrupp Marine Systems (TKMS) license.

The grand launching ceremony unfolded as part of the EDEX 2023 Inauguration Ceremony, held from December 4 to 7 at the Egypt International Exhibition Center in Cairo. President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi graced the occasion, joined by distinguished officials, granting permission for the ship’s launch through a live feed.

During the ceremony, Admiral Ashraf Attwa, Commander of the Navy, sought permission for the launch and presented the president with a commemorative shield of the ship. This symbolic gift was a gesture from the leaders, engineers, workers, and technicians of Alexandria Shipyard, embodying their collective pride in this momentous achievement. He also highlighted Egypt’s notable accomplishments in manufacturing substantial military vessels, and proudly stated that Egypt has positioned itself among the few countries to manufacture large military vessels, also said. “Today we celebrate the inauguration and launching of the first MEKO A200 stealth frigate by 100% Egyptian hands.”
Rear Admiral. Hossam El-Din Ezzat Kotb (Chairman of Alexandria Shipyard) led the launching ceremony of the MEKO frigate at Alexandria Shipyard Company. The ceremony witnessed the presence of naval force leaders, along with the dedicated engineers, technicians, and workers of Alexandria Shipyard.

In its announcement, Alexandria Shipyard affirmed that “The launching and sailing of Egyptian frigates are now an undeniable reality, underscoring that Egypt is advancing full throttle to boost the Egyptian position in the field of military production, meeting international standards by Egyptian hands.”
