Shipbuilding
Alexandria Shipyard is the largest Firm in Egypt and the Middle East in the field of Ship Construction and ship repair. Majority of the Egyptian Commercial Fleet were built by the shipyard covering various types and capacities of ships including General cargo, Multi-purpose with RoRo access to the twin deck, RoRo Cargo, Bulk Carriers with the largest ship ever built in Egypt "Qena / Damietta" of 38500 TDW bulk carriers. In addition to the Marine Industry, ASY has also used its capabilities to serve the needs of heavy industry. Over the years, ASY has manufactured Refractory Equipment, Fertilizing Hoppers, Derricks, Cranes of various types and many other Engineering Equipment. This policy ,detailed above, Prevails and supported different major developed project which ,as a result, escalated the annual production rate from 4000 tons of processed steel to 40000 tons a year
Commercial Ships
Alexandria Shipyard has a long history in the field of commercial vessels construction, where the production of different ships cargo for more than 35 ships, with various capacities ranging from 3000 tons to 38000 tons were completed and flew Egypt and other country’s flags.
On the other hand small crafts building facility manufactured numerous ships including 15 water and oil tankers with different deadweights ranging from 300 to 600 tons and 6 tugs (water tractors) of 40 tons-bollard pull and 19 Nile barges with a load of 24 (40 ft) containers.
Navy Ships Building Strategy
Knowing that Combat ships Building Process is Different Than Commercial Ships in Many Aspects , ASY Acknowledge the Need to Develop the Building Strategy and the Integrated Management System Suits for Naval Ships Where reducing the ship Sound Print, the Ship Thermal Image ,the Radar Cross-sectional, Electromagnetic print and Visual print are of Paramount Importance to be Embedded in the Design and Manufacture Process of combat ships as well. Hence ASY Started to implement Strategic Planning for implementing the Naval Ship building Requirements, that includes Production Facility Upgrade to accommodate such Manufacture requirements for material handling equipment , Production Process Capacities , Launching Capacity and Techniques. Hence, GRP Workshop was Established for building Fast Patrol Boats with Speed up to 60 Knots Other Workshops For building Big Ships SECTION used in Assembly Of modular Section Were upgraded to Accommodate for the Needed Material Handling Capacity up TO 300 ton Section When building outdoors and upto 100 ton when building under sheds, therefore building of GOWIND Corvette class ships took place with Technology Transfer with “Naval Group” the biggest French Company
Rigs and Offshore Platforms
Alexandria shipyard has extended its activity to cover the marine related fields started in 1972 with construction of offshore fixed platforms for the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation and then followed by construction of jack up drilling rig in 1980 for Becker Marine Cooperation. However the shipyard continued until now to participate in construction of numerous small items related to the Offshore units for various major contractors working in the oil field within Egypt
