Launch of the Second Tugboat "Ismailia for the Suez Canal Authority

 Under instructions of political leadership to nationalize national industry and general command of armed forces keenness to fruitful cooperation with all authorities to profit from all available abilities and potentials,

On Thursday, 18 December 2025  Agreed upon allowing Alexandria Shipyard Co. to Inaugurate the Second Tugboat “Ismailia 2” With tugging force 190 tons which was built inside Alexandria Shipyard Co., according to clauses of contracting on two tugboats in the interest of Suez Canal Authority.

The tugboat is the latest and greatest one in the Middle East.

In the presence of Rear Admiral / Yasser Elsherif, General Manager of Maritime Industries and Services Authority, Rear Admiral / Hossam Kotb, Chairman of Alexandria Shipyard Co., and number of the authority board’s members and previous leaders of Alexandria Shipyard Co. and the shipyard’s members and employees.

This crowned the fruitful cooperation between both sides and activated clauses of contracting between Suez Canal Authority and Alexandria Shipyard Co. to build two relieving tugboats with tugging force 190 tons, both tugboats specifications are similar as each one’s length is 71.6 m, width is 18.5 m, draft is 7 m, and speed 16 knots.

The celebration began by reciting Quran followed by a foreword by Rear Admiral / Hossam Kotb, Chairman of Alexandria Shipyard Co. in which he expressed his pride of the greatest achievement Alexandria Shipyard Co. of inaugurating the tugboat “Ismailia 2” with tugging force 190 tons in the interest of Suez Canal Authority to be this year event of inaugurating the two contracted tugboats. 

The chairman of Alexandria Shipyard Co. confirmed inaugurating the great tugboat is a trust certificate before world of Alexandria Shipyard Co.’s ability to apply its aspiring plans to hold the slogan “made in Egypt” to better internationally fields under the aspiring Egyptian view of nationalizing heavy industries, committing to begin in works of testing and delivering the first tugboat “Ismailia 1” within the first quarter of the next year.

Then Rear Admiral / Hossam Kotb, thanked all authorities participated in and contributed to  success of the project of building the new tugboat with tugging force 190 tons specially Maritime Industries Authority, Suez Canal Authority and French Supervision Authority BV; in addition to international partners including Kongsberg Norwegian Co. the main designer and responsible for supplying the main propulsion appliances, in addition to MAN German Co. of supplying basic machine and equipment and national banks.

In his speech, on behalf of Lieutenant General / Ossama Rabea, Head of Suez Canal Authority, Eng./ Nashaat Nassreldin, thanked Alexandria Shipyard Co. for its effort of making this achievement in a record time at an international level comparable to international

shipyards and looking forward to more mutual national future projects between the authority and Alexandria Shipyard Co.

And confirmed that cooperation with Alexandria Shipyard Co. reflects the successful strategic partnership efforts between national organizations in achieving assignments of President / Abdelfattah Elsisi, of nationalizing heavy industries and maritime industries to have a developed maritime industrial base able to compete territorially and internationally.

And added that the authority could executed this principle through hard work to nationalize industries via three levels through enhancing activity shipbuilding and maritime units building with the authority’s shipyards and companies, in addition to encouraging partnerships with national organizations such as maritime industries authority beside concluding partnerships with private sector including cooperation with South Red Sea Shipyard Co.

Finally, Mr./ Nasser Ragab, the Territorial Manger of French Supervision Authority, added that the new tugboat is the latest and best addition in the authority’s maritime fleet history as it is characterized by a tugging force higher than the greatest relief tugboats at the authority in addition to “Clean Ship” advantage   and equipment with DP system enabling to easy maneuvering during dealing with foreign units , also SCR system enable to purify exhaust from carbon to suit the authority’s strategy of calling Suez Canal “The Green Canal”.
